3 Of The Best Ice Skating Rinks in Washington, D.C.

If you are planning to visit Washington, D.C. during the holidays, know that there are three beautiful skating rinks to choose from that are nearby The Fairfax Hotel.

The National Art Gallery Ice Rink

The National Art Gallery of Ice Rink

The first one is The National Gallery of Art Ice Rink. The current ice skating season has already begun back on November 15, and will continue up to March 15, 2020, as long as the weather permits. The National Gallery of Art Ice Rink is open from 10 AM to 9 PM from Monday to Thursday, and 10 AM to 11 PM on Fridays. On Saturdays, the rink is open from 10-11 AM, but only for Learn to Skate USA lessons only.

After 11 AM, you can skate until 11 PM as the ice rink opens for the general public. On Sundays, the schedule is adjusted slightly as the rink opens on 11 AM and closes at 9 PM. Please take note that ice rinks tend to close due to inclement weather.

You can call them at (202) 216-9397 to find out if the rink is open on a particular day, to make sure. Enjoy wonderful, panoramic views from the Pavilion Café that serves soups, salads, sandwiches, and a variety of other bites whenever you visit the ice rink. There are also cold and hot beverages for the whole family, from hot chocolate, tea, and pumpkin spice lattes, to beer and hot cider. The café is open daily alongside the ice rink, but closes two hours earlier than the rink.

The Wharf Ice Rink

The Wharf Ice Rink is located at the Transit Pier, which is just outside The Anthem. This ice rink offers great views of the water and the surrounding monuments, and is a great place to bring the family while you are sightseeing in D.C.

Like the previous rink, they also offer hot beverages at the Wharf Ice Rink, and there are also seasonal specialties that the whole family will enjoy. The current skating season is open, and the ice rink is currently shining with its special Washington Capitals decor. Fans who come visit wearing their Capitals jersey will receive a $5 discount upon admission to the rink. The rink’s schedule is 12-6 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays, 12-10 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12-11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12-9 PM on Sundays.

There are different special events on certain dates so be sure to check out their website to find out what’s in store for you and the folks you are bringing with you when you come visit The Wharf Ice Rink. The rink is open during the holidays from December 22 onward, until New Year’s Day. The rink is open from 11 AM – 10 PM on New Year’s Day.
