Porter Lara’s abstract work is the focus of this new exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Based in Albuquerque, Lara uses her hands, clay, stone and a pit-fire to create art that sleekly resembles a modern artifact: the plastic bottle. The pieces can also recall pottery, sculptures and animals, blurring artificial borders that society has created over time, like those between art and garbage or nature.
